First try at a post Hollenbeck Road Race Group Gravel Ride

Well, it was awesome. Even though I was 30 minutes late to the ride start and we lost someone (Jack) within the first 5 miles.

We came together and had a fantastic ride from Hollenbeck Cider mill through Tuller State forest. Roads, trails and gravel. Matt put together a fantastic route…in his words the “gentlest we can do starting from The Mill.” That equated to almost 18 miles and close to 2500′ of climbing by my Wahoo.

We had about 4 people that did the race and then came to ride at least part of the gravel route. Including Casey who I think got 5th in the A race and rode his wife’s gravel bike (too small for him) most of the route. Including crushin us on some muddy, off camber singletrack.

Freshly inaugarated FLCC PRESIDENT Roby Joyce volunteered at the race on corner 3 and then rode the entire gravel route afterwards with a smile on his face.

Matt showed up in his usual fashion of baggy basketball shorts, running shoes and cyclocross bike with v brakes and spanked us on most of the climbs.

I think we all had a great ride and ran out of water. It was a hot day but conditions were excellent. Hopefully this will be a tradition!
