Do I need an appointment for a repair? +
No appointment needed for most repairs — just bring your bike in. If you need a mobile repair or something outside regular hours, give us a call at 607-250-SHOP and we’ll work something out.
What does a tune-up include? +
We offer two levels. A Basic Tune-Up (Level 1) covers brake adjustment, gear tuning, and a full safety check. A Full Tune-Up (Level 2) goes deeper — complete drivetrain cleaning and adjustment, wheel truing, brake service, and a bolt torque check. Not sure which one you need? Bring it in and we’ll take a look for free.
How long does a repair take? +
Simple repairs like flat fixes or brake adjustments are usually same-day. Larger jobs depend on parts availability and our current workload — we’ll give you an honest turnaround estimate when you drop off. We know your time matters.
Will you work on a bike I didn’t buy from you? +
Absolutely. We’ll work on any bike, regardless of where you bought it. Bring it in and we’ll get it sorted.
How often should I get my bike tuned up? +
At minimum, once a year before the riding season — especially if the bike sat all winter. If you’re riding regularly (30+ miles a week), every 1,500 miles or so is a good rule of thumb. Staying ahead of maintenance is always cheaper than waiting for something to break.
Do you offer mobile repairs? +
Yes. Call the shop at 607-250-SHOP to schedule a mobile repair or an appointment outside regular hours and we’ll figure out the best option for you.
Do you sell new bikes? +
Yes — we carry a focused selection of new bikes and gear. We stock simple, dependable bikes suited to Cortland riders: commuters, trail bikes, and family bikes. Stop in to see what’s currently on the floor.
Do you sell used bikes? +
Yes — used and refurbished bikes are a big part of what we do. Every bike we sell is inspected, serviced, and safe before it hits the floor. Great option for students, families, and casual riders who want a solid bike without the new bike price tag.
Do you buy bikes or take trade-ins? +
Yes to both. Spring cleaning the garage? Bring in the bikes you’re not using — we buy bikes outright and we take trade-ins toward another bike. We can’t give estimates over the phone since we need to see the bike first, but just bring it in and we’ll make a fair offer on the spot.
Do you have a free bike program? +
We do. We’re working with the city to get bikes into the hands of everyone who needs one. Stop in and ask — we’ll handpick and build a bike suited to your needs.
I bought a bike from a big box store. Can you help me? +
For service and repairs, yes — bring it in. We’ll work on any bike. If you’re looking to trade it toward something better, talk to us and we’ll see what we can do.
Do you service e-bikes? +
Yes. We service most e-bikes and scooters, including electrical diagnostics, brake and drivetrain service, and general maintenance. You don’t have to have bought it from us. If we can’t fix it, we’ll point you to someone who can.
What e-bike brands do you work on? +
We work on most major e-bike brands. The best way to know for sure is to call us at 607-250-SHOP or stop in — describe what you’ve got and we’ll tell you right away whether we can help.
Do you sell e-bikes? +
Yes — check out our sister site cnyebike.com for our e-bike and e-scooter inventory. We carry a range of options for commuting, recreation, and getting around town.
Who owns and runs Cortland Bike Co.? +
Michael Bennett — nearly 30 years in the bike industry. UBI-trained suspension specialist, former shop owner (Cactus Bike in Phoenix), and a mechanic who spent years in Whistler, BC at the heart of the mountain bike world. He came back to Central New York to build a community-first shop. You’ll likely also meet Charlie, the shop dog.
Where are you located and what are your hours? +
We’re at 11 Clinton Ave, Cortland, NY. Call us at 607-250-SHOP or email us through the contact page for current hours — or just stop in. We’re a real shop, not a warehouse.
Is this a good shop for beginners or people just getting back into cycling? +
It’s exactly the right shop. No pressure, no attitude, no upselling. Whether you’re commuting, riding with your kids, or picking up a bike for the first time in years — you won’t feel out of place here. That’s the whole point.
Do you have group rides or community events? +
Yes — check the Community section of the site for local group rides and upcoming events. We’re plugged into the Cortland riding scene and want to keep it growing.
